The woven backs are usually held together by frames, which further increases the durability of these chairs.

Mesh office chairs with upholstered backs are less durable compared to the ones with woven backs. This is because the upholstery tends to tear and flatten within a year. Not only will worn-out flattened chair upholstery make the workplace look disheveled, it will also be uncomfortable to sit on all day. 

Ventilation

Ventilation is an overlooked component of office chairs. Sitting on a piece of furniture for 8 to 10 hours could get uncomfortable as the fabric of the chair could trap body heat. Again, mesh and upholstery will ventilate differently:

Mesh chairs with a thin fabric back are usually preferable for its excellent ventilation qualities. The woven fabric allows air to flow freely and keeps the person comfortable and cool.
Mesh seats with an upholstered  back
Mesh seating with upholstered backs block the airflow path. This can cause sweating and even damp clothing, making it extremely uncomfortable to continue working. 
Mesh-backed chairs will work well for employees that sit for long periods of time at their desks. On the other hand, upholstered chairs will eventually get worn out and uncomfortable.
